Danish Orchid Society

Danish Orchid Society is an association under the auspices of HRH Princess Benedikte founded to promote interest in and further knowledge of orchids, their cultivation and utilization.

The society was founded on september the 24th 1960. Today it has app. 800 members divided into six local orchid societies:

  • Orchid Society of Sealand (SOK)
  • Orchid Society of Lolland Falster (LFOK)
  • Orchid Society of Jutland (JOK)
  • Orchid Society of Southern Jutland (SJOK)
  • Orchid Society of Funen (OKF)
  • Orchid Society of Northern Jutland (NOK)

The society publishes a bimonthly journal "Orkideer" in cooperation with the Norwegian Orchid Society.

The membership fee goes in part to the Danish Orchid Society and in part to the local orchid society of relevance to the member - thus the annual fee may vary depending on the fee of the local society. For extraterritorial members who do not participate in the activities of the local societies, a reduced rate is available.

The society has a library that lends out books to members, who pay merely the shipping costs. The library also subscribe to a number of international orchid journals, that are circulated among interrested members.

The local societies arrange meetings and lectures about orchids and orchid growing. During the meetings, plants are frequently sold or exchanged. Furthermore, the societies arrange excursions and exhibitions as well as visits to orchid nurseries and shows in Denmark as well as abroad.
